Well recommended. When I actually have to fight melee, I like using the upgraded spear a lot. Keeps them at arms length and in caves their erratic movements tend to make fighting 1v1 not too hard.
But when that doesn't work I do bust out the katana for raw speed. At the end of the day my fighting style doesn't use blocking much so it isn't worth the loss in speed for me.
