Als Spirit jedoch merkt das sie sich auf seine Heimat zu bewegen, täuscht er einen Zusammenbruch vor. Er schafft es frei zu kommen und löst mit einigen Tritten die Gespanne von der Lokomotive.
Diese explodieren und es bricht ein Feuer aus. Auf der Flucht vor dem Feuer verfängt sich Spirit mit der Kette, die er noch um hat, an einen Baumstamm.
Plötzlich erscheint Little Creek der sich aufgemacht hat um Spirit zu suchen. Er befreit ihn und sie springen eine Klippe hinunter in den Fluss. Als Spirit aufwacht, liegen wieder Äpfel vor ihm.
Er schubst Little Creek, der gerade etwas trinken wollte, in den Fluss und die beiden spielen miteinander. Auf einmal kommen der Colonel und seine Männer angeritten.
Doch Spirit nimmt seinen ganzen Mut zusammen und springt über die Schlucht. Nach dem Sprung ist der Colonel endgültig beeindruckt von Spirit und lässt die beiden ziehen.
Die beiden kehren ins Indianerlager zurück. Spirit traut seinen Augen kaum, als er Rain Gesund und Munter sieht. Die Herde und vor allem Esperanza freut sich ihn endlich wieder zu sehen und Spirit führt mit Rain an seiner Seite die Herde wieder an.

Wiki erstellen. Eine Besonderheit ist, das In diesem Film kaum geredet wird. The background art and western landscapes are stunning and offer a mix of painted scenes and computer-created scenery, although everything seems computer enhanced in one way or another.
Most importantly, the film gives us a chance to savor the backgrounds. The characters don't zip around in constant frenetic motion the way they do in Disney movies.
Although there are several chase scenes, the characters are just as likely to pause and connect with each other in movements reflecting naturalistic behavior.
There are moments of gentleness, tenderness, curiosity, and discovery, so we get to see the space the characters are in and get to connect with it ourselves.
There's a real palpable sense of environment and geography, of time and place, something rarely found in American animated features. The character design is also well-done.
The human characters all have solid, expressive, recognizable faces, strongly differentiated from each other.
The horses are well designed also, looking like horses, but anthropomorphised enough to give them recognizable emotional responses. No character, human or animal, is exaggerated for cartoon effect.
I normally have problems with digital animation and computer created imagery and SPIRIT is, for the most part, computer created, although it replicates the look of traditional 2-D animation.
This is digital animation at the best I've ever seen it including the Japanese anime features I've seen in the last few years.
If there is any significant flaw in SPIRIT, aside from the songs, it's that the story falls short of greatness, undercut by the lack of a sufficiently emotional payoff.
SPIRIT may suffer at the boxoffice because it doesn't have the all-important lowest-common-denominator touches that have so cheapened the animated genre but attracted audiences looking for easy laughs e.
But it should give a measure of hope to that small, passionate segment of the audience that cares about animation as a medium capable in its own right of great storytelling and cinematic artistry.

He then see Spirit being hauled away by the men and vows to repay a debt after saving his life.
Spirit, devastated by Rain's injury, puts up no fight as he is loaded onto a rail car. During his trip on the train, Spirit sees a vision of his mother and his herd, telling him to "remember who you are", and Spirit's energy is restored.
He is put to work with 60 other horses pulling a train to the new tracks of the Transcontinental Railroad.
As they reach the top of a large hill, he realizes if the railway continues, it will encroach on his homeland. He pretends to die, and as he is hauled away by mules, frees himself of the chain and kicks away the chains binding the other horses to the train, encouraging them to run.
The train begins to slide down the hill with no horses to hold it, and Spirit gallops in front, just inches from being crushed.
The train reaches the bottom of the hill and explodes, causing a fire. While he escapes from the explosion, Spirit runs and finds himself in a ditch with a tree blocking his path.
He attempts to jump the log but the chain around his neck gets stuck on the branch, strangling him. Little Creek arrives just in time and frees him.
The two run jump off a cliff and into a river below them to escape the flames. When Spirit awakens the next day, he and Little Creek celebrate their escape, however the Colonel and his men have caught up with them and are chasing them again.
Little Creek tells Spirit to run and attempts to follow, but trips over. Spirit sees the army men catching up to Little Creek and turns back for him, letting Little Creek ride him for first time.
Spirit and Little Creek run into a canyon and work together to take out most of the men, but when they run up to a dead end, Spirit takes a life or death chance and jumps over the canyon.
They make it to the other side and out of respect for their jump, the Colonel stops the chase.
They celebrate their escape and gallop home to Little Creek's village. Rain is still alive and completely healed. Little Creek wants Rain to be happy, and gives her the chance to go with Spirit to his herd.
